Nubia Radio Show
This show is one of my first to really explore more of an ‘Eastern’ sound with singing in Arabic. It made me reflect on how little of that sound we are naturally exposed to in the UK / Europe. I am gradually ‘tuning’ my ear to become more accustomed to the sounds of the harmonics, voices and instruments. The more I listen, the more I like it.
To provide a bit of context, the show features music from Egypt and Sudan, but not strictly only from the Nubian peoples or the Nubian region. The show features an interview with Sudanese producer Sufyvn who now lives in Canada and started off as a hip-hop producer but now creates his own blend of traditional Sudanese sounds with electronic production to create an amazing, spacey other-worldly sound.
