Tanzania Radio Show

Just a few of weeks before my Tanzania show was to be broadcast I saw a recommendation on the Love Will Save The Day community Whatsapp group from producer Sam Fawcett. It was for an album called Maisha by the Zawose Queens. I listened to the album through twice and fell in love with their sound.

I contacted Oli Barton-Wood (Sam’s friend who played on and produce the album with the Zawose Queens and Tom Excell) and asked him if he might be interested in coming on the show to talk about the album and he suggested I speak to the Zawose Queens themselves. So he put me in touch and they agreed to an interview which was performed in Kiswahili via their tour manager Aziza!

In their interview they talk about the creative process for the album, how they navigated combining their traditional instruments and rhythms with most Western sounds, and their first international tour. They have a wonderful energy which really comes through in the interview and they even sang me a song over Zoom which also features. Enjoy!
